Stafford man to become UK ambassador in Somalia

A STAFFORD-BORN member of the Foreign Office will move to the troubled country of Somalia soon to become the UK Ambassador.

David Concar, originally from Little Haywood, will head out in mid-January to live in the country, which has been the target of frequent terrorist attacks from Islamic extremists.

Mr Concar was most recently head of the Foreign Office’s International Organisations Department in London, a post he combined with the role of UK Commonwealth Envoy. He led the Foreign Office’s policy work on a number of major international institutions, including the UN and International Criminal Court.
Before joining the Foreign Office in 2004 Mr Concar worked for international science journal Nature, and was then deputy editor of New Scientist for a number of years for which he won an award.

Most recently Mr Concar was head of the Foreign Office’s International Organisations Department in London, a post he combined with the role of UK Commonwealth Envoy

His most recent posting abroad was China, from where he returned in 2012. He currently lives in Brighton.
